As Lab Animal Week comes to a close, the NAVS would like to thank our amazing supporters for making our events a success.

As government considers the biggest overhaul of regulations on animal experiments for 25 years, the NAVS hit the streets with an eye-catching billboard van that toured throughout the UK during the week. On the eve of Lab Animal Day, NAVS also held a vigil outside the Institute of Neurology in London.

Our billboard tour travelled hundreds of miles from Manchester down to London - stopping at seven other cities in between - with MPs and supporters greeting the van and leafleting in their city. Our candlelight vigil was also a success with over 20 people coming together to remember the millions of animals that suffer and die in labs every year.

Thank you to everyone who participated in Lab Animal Week- either by attending our vigil, joining the march in Manchester, sparing some time to leaflet or coming out to see the billboard van.

MPs Support the NAVS campaign

BRISTOL
Kerry McCarthy MP said: “It’s really important that we make more progress on ending unnecessary testing on animals and reducing the number of animal experiments that are carried out. This EU legislation is a significant step forward, and we should all be urging the British government to implement it in full, and as soon as possible so that we can save thousands of animals from cruel and unnecessary suffering.”

SHEFFIELD
Clive Betts MP said: “I am very much opposed to the testing of cleaning and cosmetic products on animals and I support all efforts to reduce animal testing.”

ROMFORD
Andrew Rosindell said: “I am very pleased to support the NAVS Cutting Edge not Knife Edge campaign, which calls for the UK Government to replace cruel and outdated animal experiments with modern, sophisticated alternatives. The campaign comes at a crucial time, as the UK Government is deciding how best to comply with the new European directive on animal testing. We must take this opportunity to push forward the development of advanced technology and adoption of efficient techniques to replace animal tests.”

LEWISHAM
Jim Dowd said: “The transposition of the EU directive on animal testing gives us a rare chance to review the current rules governing animal experiments in the UK. We cannot miss that chance, and that is why I support the NAVS Cutting Edge not Knife Edge campaign. It is the right time for the Government to demonstrate its commitment push forward the replacement of out-of-date animal tests by more efficient alternatives. I call on the Minister to propose a new legislation soon and fully involve the Parliament in the transposition process."
