In September, 433 MEPs signed our Written Declaration 40/2007 calling for urgent action to end the use of Great Apes and wild-caught monkeys in experiments and for a timetable to be set to end all experiments on nonhuman primates in Europe.

An undercover investigation at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel by Let Animals Live, has highlighted the suffering of primates in brain research. It also reveals how, despite known species differences, invasive animal test methods continue to be used whilst superior, non-invasive, human study methods are employed elsewhere.

A new report from Animal Defenders International, the National Anti-Vivisection Society, and Lord Dowding Fund for Humane Research has been launched this week (July 10th) at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. The report dissects the arguments presented in defence of research on primates and, citing 100 scientific references, concludes it’s time the monkey business stopped.
