Trudy the chimp saved from Chipperfields

in 1999 circus trainer, Mary Chipperfield, was convicted of animal cruelty after being found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to 18-month old Trudy.

ADI Field Officers had recorded evidence of Trudy being beaten, as well as elephants and camels. Trudy was seen being kicked, screamed at, and thrashed with a stick by Mary Chipperfield. As a result of the ADI exposť, Mary Chipperfield Promotions closed down its UK operations - the heart of its empire.

After a major media campaign, Trudy was re-homed to the Monkey World sanctuary in Dorset and was integrated into a mixed group of twenty chimpanzees.
