Dactari’s pride

7 July 2010

1

Dactari, Bambek, Simba and Camba were the first lions to be handed over to ADI after Bolivia became the first country to ban animal circuses.

These four beautiful and majestic lions have an incredibly close bond, and they now spend their days lazing in the Californian sun. This is the life they truly deserve.

Their incredible story

From rusting cages to vast expanses, read about how ADI carried out an incredible investigation, achieved world-first legislation, and carried out a record-breaking rescue operation to bring them to a new home.

Operation Lion Ark

At the end of last year, securing a ban on the use of animals in circuses in Bolivia, we completed the rescue of EVERY animal from circuses across the country.

Six monkeys, a coati mundi, a deer and horse were relocated in Bolivia or returned to the wild. We then moved all the remaining lions to the US in the biggest airlift of its kind: Operation Lion Ark.

Now these 29 ex-circus lions are living free, in family prides, in massive natural enclosures at The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Colorado and ARK 2000 in California. Their care will be funded by ADI for the rest of their lives.
