Differences between guinea pigs and humans

Guinea Pigs are used in a range of experiments including having their skin abraded and household and industrial substances applied in skin irritancy tests.
What a Waste
- Guinea pigs can only breathe through their noses.
- In experiments to try to ‘model’ dermatitis (skin inflammation) in guinea pigs, it was discovered that the symptoms caused did not mimic chemical dermatitis in humans.
- A drug used successfully for Legionnaires’ disease in patients did not prevent deaths in infected guinea pigs.
- Penicillin, a useful antibiotic for people, kills guinea pigs.
