Differences between ferrets and humans

1

Amongst other experiments, ferrets have been used in dental testing. A superior, non-animal method of testing for toxicity of dental filling materials was developed with support from our Lord Dowding Fund and has been adopted as a British Standard.

What a Waste

  • Influenza virus A/PR/8/34 does not infect humans but causes a serious disease in ferrets.
  • Ferrets do not metabolise morphine in the same way as people.
  • Zacopride is effective in preventing vomiting caused by poisons in humans, but causes retching and vomiting in the ferret.
