Your help is needed during the Week Of Action Against Secret Suffering in UK labs on November 27th – December 3rd.

The NAVS is calling on supporters to participate in two key actions which could influence the secret use of millions of animals in UK laboratories each year.

Time is of the essence so please spare just half an hour of your time to take part in these actions during our week of action, and encourage others to do the same. Spread the word for lab animals.

Shine a light on cruel animal tests – urge your MP to back repeal of Section 24

Section 24 of the UK law governing the use of animals in research – the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act – allows details of animal experiments to remain hidden and the NAVS is calling for this “secrecy clause” to be repealed. Support for our campaign is building by the day and we have secured the support of dozens of politicians, academics, organisations and celebrities.

But more must be done to ensure that lab animals do not suffer in silence.

The Government has announced a review of Section 24 and is expected to consult the public later this year or early 2014. It is crucial that we make our voices heard so that we can win a real change for the animals. We hope you will take part in the consultation – we will let you know as soon as it has been announced.

Until then, during the Week Of Action Against Secret Suffering in UK labs please contact your MP and urge them to sign EDM 630 Open Government and Animal Experiments which calls for the repeal of Section 24.

Contact your MP here and urge them to support EDM 630. You can see whether they have signed here (if they have please thank them!)

Animal researchers consult on “openness” – your participation needed

Last Autumn, animal research institutions signed up to a “Concordat”, or declaration, on openness in animal research which the public has now been invited to comment on. The NAVS believes that they have no desire to remove the veil of secrecy which shrouds animal experiments and has invited signatories to the declaration to support true openness by backing the repeal of Section 24.

During the Week Of Action Against Secret Suffering in UK labs please take part in the online questionnaire which is hosted by the pro-vivisection lobby group Understanding Animal Research. You need only reply to the key questions that have been identified by the NAVS – questions 4, 17, 18, 40, 41, 54, 55, 65 and 66 – using our answer guide here.

Take action now!

Take part in the online questionnaire here – just copy and paste the suggested responses from our answer guide for questions 4, 17, 18, 40, 41, 54, 55, 65 and 66.

Thank you for supporting our Week Of Action Against Secret Suffering in UK labs – together we are working to end animal experiments.
