Step backwards for science as university opens new animal research lab

Posted: 4 October 2012. Updated: 4 October 2012

As the world embraces advanced techniques to replace the use of animals in research, the opening of a new 16 million animal laboratory in the UK is completely at odds with scientific developments.

Housing over 2,000 animals including mice, rats and toads, a report concerning the centre stated that there are no plans to test on dogs or primates. Mice, which are bred on site, will be subjected to stroke and bowel cancer research.

Millions of animals needlessly die in the name of research every year.

NAVS and Animal Defenders International want safe medicines and medical progress without animal suffering and an end to unreliable, unethical and unnecessary animal experiments.
